How Paintless Dent Removal Works

Paintless dent removal uses specialised metal rods, glue-pull tabs and controlled pressure to work a dent back to its original shape from behind or beside the panel — no cutting, no filler, no repainting. It works because the metal is displaced while the paint film over it stays unbroken.

No paint work means a typical job is finished in hours, with no drying time and no colour-match risk. The dent & ding repair page covers the process in detail.

When PDR Isn't the Right Fix

PDR is not a fix-everything technique. It generally can't be used where:

  • The paint is cracked or chipped through to bare metal at the dent.
  • The dent sits on a sharp body line or panel edge, where the metal has stretched rather than bent.
  • The impact tore the metal or deformed structure behind the panel.
  • The panel has been filled or resprayed before — older filler behaves unpredictably.
In those cases traditional panel and paint is the correct repair, and we'll tell you from your photos rather than after a call-out.

Paintless dent removal keeps the factory paint, is usually same-day, and costs a fraction of a respray — but needs undamaged paint.

Traditional panel & paint is required once paint is broken or metal is torn: days rather than hours, and a repainted panel in the car's history.

Paintless Repair vs Traditional Panel & Paint

Every quote is fixed before the booking, and four things decide the figure:

  • Size and depth. A shallow ding the width of a coin is a different job to a deep one you can rest a thumb in.
  • Access. A door skin that opens up from behind is straightforward; a dent behind bracing, around a sunroof surround or on a sealed panel takes longer and sometimes means removing trim first.
  • Position. Metal in the flat middle of a panel moves willingly. Metal on a body line, a panel edge or a double-skinned section resists, and a dent that has stretched the steel rather than simply bent it may not come all the way out.
  • How many. Several dents fixed in one visit cost far less per dent than three separate call-outs, because travel and setup only happen once.

What does not change the price: the suburb you are in, what caused the damage, or the badge on the car.

  • Which service does my damage fall under?

    Send photos and we'll tell you. Most damage falls clearly into one of the three, and if what you have needs traditional panel and paint instead, we'll say so rather than take the booking.

  • Can one visit cover more than one type of damage?

    Yes. A door ding on one panel and a few hail dents on the bonnet can be quoted and repaired in the same visit. Send photos of everything you'd like looked at so the quote covers the lot.

  • Do you work on all vehicle types?

    Most passenger cars, SUVs, utes and vans. Some panels — thin aluminium and certain composites — behave differently under PDR tools, so tell us the make, model and year and we'll confirm before booking.

  • Is pricing the same across all three services?

    Pricing follows the damage, not the category. A small hail dent and a small trolley ding cost about the same to fix; a deep crease near a panel edge costs more than either. You'll always have the fixed figure in writing before we book.
