Panel Dent Repair Without Painting

OUR SERVICES
Panel dent repair covers the bigger, more visible dents that span a whole bonnet, door, roof or quarter panel — not just a small ding. It's the same paintless dent removal technique used across this site, scaled up: no cutting, no filler, no repaint, provided the paint itself is still intact. We come to you anywhere in Sydney and quote a fixed price from photos before we start.

What Counts as a Panel Dent

Panel dent repair covers the bigger, more visible dents that sit across a whole body panel rather than a small, isolated ding — a shopping trolley graze that's turned into a proper crease, a low-speed reversing knock that's dented most of a door skin, a fallen branch or hailstorm hit that's put a dent the size of a dinner plate in a bonnet or roof, or a car park bump that's caught a quarter panel edge-on.

If a dent is shallow enough to work with fingers pressed either side of it, it's probably everyday dent and ding work. If it spans a hand's width or more, sits close to a body line, or has taken out a noticeable section of a bonnet, roof, door or quarter panel, it's a panel dent job.

Panel Dent Repair, Not Panel Beating

Panel dent repair here means the same paintless dent removal technique used across the rest of this site, applied to a bigger dent — not traditional panel beating. Panel beating and panel-and-paint work involves cutting out damaged metal, welding in new sections, filling low spots with body filler and respraying the panel, and it's the right fix once paint is cracked, metal is torn, or a panel has been filled or resprayed before. We don't do that side of the trade.

What we do is work a larger dent back into shape from behind or beside the panel using metal rods and glue-pull tools — the same way we'd fix a door ding, just scaled up — no cutting, no filler, no repaint, provided the paint film itself is still intact.

Access is the first job, and it usually takes longer on a bigger panel because there's more metal to reach and read. Depending on where the dent sits, we'll work through the door cavity, boot, wheel arch or engine bay, and larger jobs sometimes mean removing a trim panel, headliner edge or wheel liner to get a rod or bridge tool into position.

From there it's the same process as any PDR job, just repeated across a wider area: controlled pressure applied in small increments, checked constantly under a reflective light board, working from the edges of the dent in toward the centre so the metal doesn't over-correct. Bigger, shallower panel dents — the kind a hailstorm or a soft reversing knock produces — often move more easily than small, deep dings, because the metal hasn't been stretched as sharply.

What Happens During a Panel Repair

Trading since 2010s

Sydney-wide coverage

No paint, no filler

No obligation to books

The same things that price any PDR job apply here, just at a bigger scale: the size and depth of the dent, how easily the panel can be accessed, where it sits relative to body lines and edges, and how many dents are being fixed in the one visit.

A large, shallow dent in the flat middle of a bonnet can sometimes be quicker than a small, sharp ding near a door handle. A dent that's crossed a body line, sits over bracing, or reaches into a double-skinned section like a boot lid or tailgate takes longer and costs more, because the metal resists and more access points are usually needed. Every quote is fixed from photos before we book a time — the price agreed up front is the price paid, regardless of how the job runs on the day.

What Affects the Price

Most panel dent jobs are still finished in a single visit — usually a few hours rather than the twenty minutes a small door ding might take, but nowhere near the days a respray adds. There's no drying time to build in because nothing is painted, and no colour-match risk because the original factory paint never leaves the panel.

Very large or awkwardly positioned dents, or a car with several panels affected, are the exception — those get flagged as a longer job when we quote from your photos, so there's no surprise on the day.

How Long It Takes

Panel dent repair has the same limits as everyday PDR, just more likely to show up on a larger dent: if the paint is cracked or chipped through to bare metal, if the impact has stretched or torn the metal rather than simply bending it, or if the panel has been filled or resprayed before, paintless techniques can't reliably bring it back and traditional panel and paint is the correct fix.

We'll tell you this from your photos rather than after a call-out, and we won't take a booking we don't think will work — sending you to a panel shop instead costs us a job, but it's a more honest outcome than promising a paintless fix that won't hold up.

When a Panel Needs Traditional Panel & Paint Instead

Photos are all we need to start: a few angles of the dent in good light, and something for scale — a hand or a coin next to it — so we can judge size and depth properly. From there you'll get a fixed price before we agree on a time, the same as every other job we quote.

We come to you anywhere across Sydney, most often through Parramatta, Blacktown and Castle Hill and the wider suburbs we now cover.

Frequently Asked Questions

info@sunnysdent.com.au
  • Is panel dent repair the same as panel beating?

Send photos and we'll tell you. Most damage falls clearly into one of the three, and if what you have needs traditional panel and paint instead, we'll say so rather than take the booking.

  • How big a dent can you fix without painting?

It depends more on the metal's condition than its size. A large, shallow dent across a bonnet or door — the kind a hailstorm or a soft knock produces — can often come out cleanly even at a good size, provided the paint is intact and the metal hasn't stretched. A smaller dent on a sharp body line can sometimes be harder to shift. Photos tell us which is which.

  • Will a big panel dent cost a lot more to fix than a small one?

Most passenger cars, SUVs, utes and vans. Some panels — thin aluminium and certain composites — behave differently under PDR tools, so tell us the make, model and year and we'll confirm before booking.

  • What if it turns out to need painting after all?

That's exactly why we quote from photos first rather than guessing on the day. If something in the photos suggests the paint might already be compromised, we'll flag it before booking rather than starting a job that can't be finished paintlessly.
